Record of Chongqing Jihua Middle School Delegation's Friendly Exchange Activities in Busan, South Korea
In the middle of spring, everything is flourishing and thriving. On April 30, 2016, 10 students from Chongqing Jihua Middle School started a week-long cultural exchange trip to Pusan, South Korea, at the invitation of the Association for Foreign Friendly Exchange of Chongqing Municipal People's Government and the Pusan International Exchange Consortium in South Korea.
Busan and Chongqing are sister cities and have frequent exchanges with Chongqing in recent years. This exchange activity was strongly supported by the Busan International Exchange Consortium. We carefully arranged our students to pair up with the students of Pusan Jiangxi Middle School in South Korea, and get to know the learning situation, family life, and Korean history and culture knowledge of Korean students at home.
First arrival in Busan: youth dissolves initial shyness
After arriving in Busan at 8:00 p.m. on April 30, under the careful arrangement of the Busan International Exchange Consortium, the paired Korean students waited in the restaurant early. They held up the welcome signs with Chinese students' names and pictures, sat in a row in turn, and saw us coming in, looking shy. Fortunately, the embarrassment of the first meeting soon melted away in the longing of young people. For a short contact, try to greet and communicate in English. You can teach me "Hello" in your language, and I can teach you "Thank you" in my language. With continuous comparisons, everyone has become good friends after a meal. After dinner, the parents of Korean students came to pick them up one after another.
Feel the school: clean and tidy campus, active and open classroom
Busan Jiangxi Middle School is located in the west of Luodong River near Busan City, so it is called Jiangxi Middle School. As soon as I arrived at the school gate, I asked to take off my shoes and enter the campus. Each person was given a pair of slippers. At first, everyone was quite puzzled. The students were very fond of sports. How could they wear slippers in sports class. It turns out that each student has a small shoe cabinet, and they must wear slippers in class at ordinary times, and change into sneakers in sports class. Therefore, the whole school looks very clean and tidy, and can not find a trace of garbage and dust. This is perhaps the biggest feature of Korean schools.
The school arranged a short and warm welcome ceremony for our Chongqing delegation. Each of us got a hot white cake made of rice flour. The teachers said it was their breakfast, so we could feel the treatment of ordinary teachers and staff. After the welcome ceremony, the school teacher led everyone to the first and second grades of high school to observe the teaching situation. When passing the aisle on the second floor, we encountered such a thing: the teacher was in the classroom for Mandarin lessons, while a dozen students outside the classroom were kneeling neatly. It turned out that the students who were punished for kneeling did not prepare materials for class according to the teacher's requirements, which can be seen from the strict discipline of this school.
According to the arrangement of the school, we had a lecture on World Geography with our Korean classmates. The main content of this lesson is the advantages and disadvantages of dam construction. Each student has a tablet computer to find relevant classroom information, fully discuss the problems assigned by the teacher, and then draw the results and give reasons according to their own understanding. The second English lesson is also the teaching in the game after learning the basic knowledge. Everyone has increased their interest and learned knowledge. It can be said that this kind of teaching is unique. In the class, Korean students are lively and free, while our students are a little stiff, perhaps because of language barrier, but some students have the courage to join the discussion after understanding, and this interactive teaching has left a very deep impression on everyone.
Experience city: Busan, a city of vitality and brilliance
As one of the four Asian dragons, South Korea has a developed economy and a high standard of living. Its urban construction is comparable to that of Hong Kong and Singapore. In recent years, as a cultural phenomenon, the Korean Wave, represented by Korean movies, TV dramas and popular songs, has developed its own style in Asia, which can be said to be the best in Asia. TV dramas such as You from the Star, Descendants of the Sun, and the divine song Jiangnan style have not only become popular in South Korea, but also made Asian and other countries around the world understand Korean culture, and made Korean culture full of imagination in the world.
